January 7 - Day +7

By Shannon | January 8, 2005

Well I felt FANTASTIC today! I don’t how to put it otherwise. My counts are still at zero, but again I cannot remember feeling this great. I hope this is a sign of good things to come.

  • WBC: < 0.1
  • HCT: 26
  • PLTS: 17
  • ANC: 0

I had alot of visitors today. My parents stopped up again and brought me a couple of movies:

  • Resident Evil: Apocalypse
  • Troy

I think I work for one of the best companies in the Rochester area - RDC, Inc. I started working for them on July 1, 2002 as an independent contractor. In June of 2003 I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

I had to get 8 rounds of CHOP/R and was worried about what this would do to my employment at RDC. The CEO took me aside and told me not worry. I would still have a position with the company and that I should concentrate on beating this thing.

They kept their word. They looked after me through out my treatment that year allowing me to work from home or the office. It was like having a second family looking after me. I went into remission in November 2003 and things were looking great (health wise).

2004 looked to be even better, but I relapsed in Oct 2004 (as most of you know from my journal) being re-diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. My only hope at beating this thing a second time was a Stem Cell Transplant. This would mean I would possibly miss 3-6 months of work.

Again, I worried about what this would do to my employment. I told RDC the news and in December 2004 I was hired Full Time as their Internet Systems Administrator. I cannot express how proud I am to be apart of a company like this.

Why am I writing all of this? Because today some of my co-workers stopped up to see me: Jeanine, Tony, and Chris.

RDC had taken up a collection and brought some cards and gifts. There were two cards where I think everyone in the company signed them, gift cards for some of my favorites places to eat, a gift certificate to a local hobby shop (I am an R/C junky), a cool book call: Uncle John’s Slighty Irregular Bathroom Reader, and a Nike Heart Rate Monitor to help me train for the 2005 Ride for the Roses!

I was totally speechless. I was biting my tongue because I thought I would cry and did not want Tony or Chris to think I was big sissy.

I can honestly say I love the people I work with and love the company I work for. I do not know how many people can say that in this day and age. Thank you everyone at RDC. It was a great ending to a perfect day.
