Long time no update …
Where do I start?!? I have not posted since 4/11/2006 and ALOT has happened since then. This will be a brief description of what has transpired over the last couple of months.
Thanks to Carrie’s brother she now has a bike. We have been cycling together since April now. I am so glad that we can share this together. I really enjoy our rides. Although she consistently kicks my butt on ALL the hills! I am so proud of her riding ability.
I also convinced Carrie and her brother (Ethan) to enter the Rochester Spring Classic Duathlon this year. They both did so well! Carrie finished in 1:21:35! Ethan finished in 1:30:28! I finished in 1:35:45! I think Carrie and Ethan did amazing for their first Duathlon.
I had my 18 month checkup with my Radiation Oncologist (Dr. Constine). He was very happy with how I looked and the progress I have made in the last year. He ordered a a Stress Echo Test for my heart and a CT Scan. That was a pretty interesting thing. They do work you pretty hard, but I think I did pretty well. The tests were more precautionary than anything else. He just wanted to make sure everything was going ok.
We went on a grueling 31 mile bike ride on Memorial Day. On the ride was Carrie, Ethan (her brother), Rodney (friend of Ethan’s) and myself. 31 miles is not usually a long ride for me, but it was quite an effort for me to finish that. Maybe it was a combination of the heat that day and the hills.
On June 2 we participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Palmyra, New York with Scott & Lori Pulver, Elizabeth & her sister. We arrived too late to participate in the Survivor walk and Caretaker walk, but we did walk for awhile with all the teams. It was a really nice event. Next year we’re going to make sure we get a larger group together.
On June 6th I had my 18 month checkup with my main Oncologist (Dr. Freidburg). I am STILL in REMISSION!! Woohoo!
:) My CT Scan looked great and the stress echo test came back normal!
Dr. Freidburg said he was very impressed that I could ride 30+ miles in all the heat we had over Memorial Day Weekend. I don’t have any more doctor appointments until October & December 2006! That will be the TWO YEAR mark for me! Carrie and I were so happy! So happy in fact that we decided we need to go to Disney again and celebrate!
We have been on a roll with the riding. I participated in the Tour de Cure again this year. I rode the 40 mile loop again around Mendon and finished it in 3Hrs 16Min!
:) That beats last years time by 30 minutes!!
The following day Carrie and I rode with the Interlakes Wellness Group and rode 25 miles in about 1:45 minutes!
I am also volunteering to work at this year’s Saturn Rochester Twilight Criterium. I’ll be working the first half of the day for the criterium and the second half of the day for the Wilmot Cancer Center selling water. I am pretty excited about this because I have missed the race all together the last two years!
Also, I have no idea what has gotten into me, but I have been doing ALOT of yard work. Well .. its a lot of work for me.
I usually avoid the yard. This year I can’t seem to be out there enough. We have mulched this year. I don’t think we have mulched the front/back area in close to three years. We also bought new flowers for our front island and I transplanted this huge burning bush to the backyard.
So as you can see the past couple of months have been extremely busy and exciting for us.
I apologize if this entry seems to jump all over the place. I should have been making entries for each of the above events, but just have not had the time. I will try to update a little more frequently, but I cannot promise anything.
+530 days since my Auto Stem Cell Transplant!
LiveSTRONG!
