Shopping for a new bike

By Stickboy | February 20, 2008

So I am once again looking at new bikes. I looked last year, but just could not make myself “pull the trigger”.

p6140048_3x21.jpgMy current bike is a 2004 Giant OCR3 (XL) which I bought new in 2005 ($400). Everything on it is still “Stock” except for the wheelset (Late 90’s HED Alp Carbon Wheels (on loan from a friend)) and (Late 90’s Look Pedals ($10 new @ a garage sale)). I love my bike, but it is noisy and creaky even after a tune-up at my local bike shops (RVE Bike & Full Moon Vista) . I have thought about just upgrading some of the component group, but by time I spend the money on that I realize I could just buy a new bike for around the same price with all of those components on it.

So now I am trying to decide what to buy. I really enjoy Time Trialing, but I am afraid if I get a TT Bike that I will be disappointed that I do not have a new Road Bike to ride everyday. So I think I am going to stick with a Road Bike for now and just get Aero Bars for it.

As for the brands … I am not really sure what to go with. My Giant has been very good to me. I have considered looking at another Giant, but going with OCR C3. Another option is the Specialized Roubaix Elite Triple. I am also seriously considering the Motobecane Immortal Ice.

So you can obviously see my dilemma. :) I’ll keep doing a little more research and hopefully before the Spring Duathlon I will be sporting a new ride. :)

    Hi Shannon!

I’m looking for a bike too! I did 25 miles in my Spinning Class, love it and now want to ride in the summer! :)

    Have a great one!

    Chris :)
